Journey into the History and Mysteries of Coral Castle

While in the neighborhood, visit the Coral Castle Museum. This site is unique among Miami-Dade County attractions. From 1923 to 1951, Edward Leedskalnin carved more than one hundred tons of coral rock. He did this in the dark. The result is a stunning sculpture garden. The coral rock sculptures in the garden include a sundial, telescope, and even a functioning rocking chair. Once you've visited the Coral Castle Museum, make time for this fascinating tour of the site. It is located at 28655 S Dixie Hwy, Homestead, FL 33033.

While visiting the Coral Castle Museum, consider driving a few miles south on the Florida Turnpike. Take Exit 86B to Biscayne Drive, also known as SW 288th Street. Continue for about 2 miles and the road will turn into SW 157th Avenue. Continue for another two miles and you'll find the entrance to Coral Castle. Metrobus routes 500 and 38 both stop in Downtown Terminal and Dadeland South Station. From there, head southeast six or seven blocks and the Coral Castle will be at the corner of SW 286th St. and S. Dixie Highway.

This monument to one man's hard work is located between the Florida Keys and Miami. It is often called America's Stonehenge. The structure contains nine-ton stones and a Polaris telescope, and features a working rocking chair. If you're getting married outside, consider hosting the reception in the Sculpture Garden. The Coral Castle Museum also hosts ceremonies outside. It is ideal for outdoor ceremonies and receptions.  Check out this other attraction.

Leedskalnin's love for the coral is one of the reasons he created this museum. He started building the Coral Castle as a monument to his future bride, but she didn't show up for the wedding. Leedskalnin was so moved by the idea of a monument that he named it after her, despite being a small man of about five feet and 100 pounds. Moreover, he was only 16 years old when he built it.

Edward Leedskalnin built the Coral Castle for three years in Florida City before moving it to Homestead. He worked on it from 1923 to 1951, and it is the oldest coral sculpture in the world. He carved more than one hundred tons of coral rocks and spent his life in the construction. Leedskalnin passed away in 1951 at the age of 64. His passion for the work was captured in the oolite limestone structure. This museum is open all day and can also be rented for private events. A great find.

Aside from being an amazing tourist attraction, the Coral Castle Museum also has several other attractions. Visitors can admire its unique features and search for enchanting rock sculptures. The museum has many items from Ed, including a nine-ton gate, a Polaris telescope, and working rocking chairs. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and has been a part of many movies and TV shows. In fact, Billy Idol even wrote a song about the man and filmed a music video at the Coral Castle Museum.
