Located at 2000 Alhambra Cir, Coral Gables, FL 33134, the Alhambra Water Tower is a historic building dating from 1926. The tower is 124 feet tall and visible from the Business 80 Capital City Freeway during rush hour traffic. Its blue paint scheme is particularly striking at night.
The Alhambra Water Tower was designed to resemble a lighthouse. It was built by architects H. George Fink and Denman Fink and served as the City's water tower until 1931. Unfortunately, the tower was destroyed during the Hurricane of 1926, but the tower was restored in 2011 and 2012. The tower is located within the Alhambra Circle Historic District. A different type of attraction.
It was built to look like a Moorish lighthouse, complete with lanterns in its cupola. Inside, the water tower housed a 25,000-gallon water tank. Fink, a cousin of the Merrick family, was a prolific architect during the early history of Coral Gables, and his design was influential in the original plan for the city. Although the tower is no longer necessary for water supply, it remains a popular landmark for residents. Learn more about us.
