What is Buena Vista Neighborhood All About?

Buena Vista is a Spanish word that means good view. It is also the name of a neighborhood found in Miami, Florida. It can be found north of the Miami Design District and the southern part of Little Haiti. The neighborhood is mainly a residential area, it is historic with many single family homes especially from the 1920s. Some of the oldest homes are located in the Historic sub district.

History

In the 1890s,the Buena Vista neighborhood of Miami was just a small village. The land boom of 1920, the area was developed into the shadowlawn and biltmore subdivisions. The houses in the area reflect upon the original owners rising social status at the time they were built. The area was originally a home to the many Florida crackers who were immigrants from North Carolina and Georgia. The neighborhood was founded in the 19th century together with other neighborhoods: lemon city and little river and it represents some of the earliest settlements in the Miami-Dade County. The land that the neighborhood sits on currently was part of the homesteads of E. L White and Henry Gleason, who very notorious in the politics of the area and very renowned. He was elected lieutenant governor of Florida after the civil war in 1876. He however stayed with his estate and handed it over to his son when the time came.

When the railroad arrived in 1896, it marked the end of an era for the pioneer bayfront village of Lemon City, business started moving inland and thus the neighborhood started growing due to the decentralisation.

Geography

It has an elevation of 13 feet, this makes the neighborhood one of the higher areas in Miami, precise location is 25.813°N and 80.192°W

Demographics

The population of Buena Vista as per 2000 was 11.290 people, the area is 1.265 square miles. The male population of the neighborhood is 5,396 while the females are 5,894. Many of the makes living there have an average age of 31.5 years and the median age of the female population is 36.9 years old. An average households in the village has 3-4 people living inside it while many families are comprised of 4-5 members. Married couples formed 31.3%, married couples with children form 14.7% and the percentage of single mother households is 20.7%. Males that have never been married and are over the age of 15 years from 19.4% and the percentage of females that have never been married and are above 15 years was 18.5%.

From this historical neighborhood of Buena Vista, you get to our office which is a short 8.2 miles away by heading south on NE 2nd Ave to NE 38th ST where you will turn west (right and go about 0.3 miles to N. Miami Ave).  Begin merging about 0.1 miles onto FL-112 W/I-195 W via the ramp to Interstate 95/Airport. After merging onto FL-112 W/I-195 W, keep left foe about 0.8 miles and continue onto FL 112 West.   Proceed driving FL-112 W for another 2.9 miles to exit from left lane onto Le Jeune Rd./ NW 42nd Ave for @ 0.5 miles.  Merge onto Le Jeune Rd./ NW 42nd Ave and proceed driving for 2.7 miles to SW 8th St/Tamiami Trail.  Take a left onto SW 8th St/Tamiami Trail and drive another 0.5 miles to SW 37th Ave/ Douglas Rd..  Make a right at SW 37th Ave and our office will be on the right in 46 ft at 806 Douglas Rd, Miami, FL 33134 .
